A patch came out today on Microsoft Update for Vista addressing some activation issues, although this behavior was not specifically noted. Let Vista install any updates available today, reboot, and see if it persists.

Vista (x32) build 5384 selected validate automatic. Lessthan 24 hours later on restart get message Vista has stopped working, must be validated.
Itdid then validate and allow me to continue. Is this going to be an on going problem? (HP Pavilion zv6000 Athlom 64-3200)

Firstly, it is called "activation" (validation is done by Windows Genuine Advantage) and no it is not going to be an ongoing problem. Secondly, the activate Windows when I get online checkbox does not appear to work yet on my machine either. However, you should still have 14 days to activate.

Either way, at first load, there is the option to activate windows. On the 5744 (RC2) it only gives 3 days. So if you don't have the auto-activate option, go ahead and do it manually. After that, there should be no problems..
Hope this helps. :-)
